How to Help Prevent Hard Water Stains on Glass & Faucets

If water spots return soon after you clean, focus on both the existing deposits and what happens when the next splash dries. Ceramic coating can help make upkeep easier, but it does not remove the minerals in hard water.

Three different jobs: clean, protect and maintain

• Clean: remove soap residue and existing mineral deposits using a method approved for the glass or fixture finish.
• Protect: apply a compatible surface coating to the clean, prepared surface.
• Maintain: remove standing water when practical and continue gentle cleaning.

Using a coating without preparing the surface does not solve an existing deposit problem. Likewise, a protective layer cannot guarantee spot-free glass if mineral-containing droplets are left to dry on it.

For shower glass

Check whether the glass already has a factory-applied protective treatment. Follow its care guide when removing deposits. Once the glass is clean, dry and confirmed compatible, a ceramic coating can be part of your maintenance routine.

Use a squeegee or soft towel to remove water after showering when practical. If cloudiness persists after appropriate cleaning, it may need a different cleaning method or assessment for permanent glass damage. Coating will not repair etched glass.

For faucets and shower trim

Pay attention to the exact finish. A deposit remover that is suitable for bare glass may not be suitable for a decorative faucet. Use the fixture maker's cleaning guidance and dry areas around the handle and base where water collects.

Fixture Shield is a surface treatment designed to help with water repellency and easier cleaning. It is applied after cleaning and requires continued care. It does not soften the water supply, dissolve established scale as its application step, or restore a damaged finish.

When should I reapply?

Follow the product's maintenance directions and watch for a decline in the coating's benefits. Fixture Shield advertises protection for up to 12 months with proper application and care, but water exposure, surface condition and cleaning practices affect actual duration.
